Thiepval Memorial restoration and new Digital Exhibition

The second phase of a major restoration project will begin in March 2020 at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing in France.

Restoration works starting March 2020

The first stage of the restoration project was completed in 2016. Work was then paused for centenary events in 2018 but will begin again in March 2020.

The next stage of work will follow in the same vein as the initial stage, adding additional drainage works, water proofing, restoration of name panels and relaying of paving.

This work will mean that areas of the memorial are inaccessible, however those wishing to see relatives names will be able to do so via a new digital exhibition. Thank you for your patience during the restoration works.

Digital exhibition at Thiepval Memorial

Thiepval Memorial is a key part of any battlefield tour, so we will be providing an innovative way to explore the site while the works are underway.

Through an innovative digital exhibition, visitors will be able to learn about the memorial, its place in the landscape, and the Battle of the Somme. The multimedia exhibition will feature the casualties we commemorate and the wider work of the CWGC.

Our dedicated CWGF interns will be on site from April to November, available to answer questions and assist in any way possible.

We’ll send out regular updates on our social channels and our website at www.cwgc.org
